Sorry, for the non-poker related post.

Don't sweat the small stuff and don't take anything in life for granted.

My best friend during my high school years was in a horrible accident last week that is probably going to significantly change the rest of his life.

The doctor's told him that he is incredibly lucky (lottery type luck) to be alive.

He has a car detailing business and he also sells car detailing chemicals to distributors. Last week, he was sitting on a couch in the detached garage behind his house. This is the same garage that he stores the chemicals in. He lit his lighter and apparently there were chemical fumes in the air which created a chemical flash fire (not sure if there was an explosion or not - think so though).

He told me that he immediately grabbed his dog who was also in the garage and ran out. The details get a little fuzzy here, but apparently he was able to roll around outside and stop the flames. In shock, he went inside and tried to start washing the burns with cold water which made things worse. He said that he even grabbed the fire extinguisher from under his sink, opened his back door, and sprayed it in the direction of the fire.

He was taken by ambulance to the Jacksonville hospital and then flown by helicopter to the Shands Burn Unit in Gainesville.

Eric has 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 45% of his body. The only places that he wasn't burnt were his back, around his shorts (back and front - luckily), and his feet (he had on shoes and socks). By some miracle, his lungs and eyes weren't burnt.

It took fire fighters 20 minutes to put out the fire.

I didn't even find out about the accident until yesterday. I think the only place that he had my number was in his cell phone - which he had on him at the time. He is having surgery today on his hands and arms.

I am going to see him tomorrow and asked if I could bring him anything. He only wanted me to bring him one thing - a Wendy's Chocolate Frosty. Hopefully they will let him have it.

Don't let the little things in life bother you. Appreciate your family and friends.

Keep Eric in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll get back to poker in my next post.
